{"id":1277,"date":"2023-08-28T11:44:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-28T08:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/api.pozirk.online\/?post_type=articles&#038;p=1277"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"religious-freedom-threatened-in-belarus-report","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/1277\/","title":{"rendered":"Religious freedom threatened in Belarus \u2013 report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>August 28,&nbsp;<em>BPN.<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;&#8220;The authoritarian nature of the government in Belarus&#8221; is a threat to most human rights, including religious freedom,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/acninternational.org\/religiousfreedomreport\/reports\/country\/2023\/belarus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">says<\/a>&nbsp;a 2023 religious freedom report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compiled by the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), an international Catholic aid organization, the report stresses that current Belarusian legislation is applied arbitrarily and creates &#8220;obstacles to religious life including ubiquitous surveillance.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even the privileged Belarusian Orthodox Church experiences &#8220;occasional challenges due to autocephaly interests,&#8221; it notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The situation is not likely to improve as &#8220;there is no sign of the current regime ending its violations of human rights \u2013 including freedom of religion,&#8221; the report reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ACN also noted instances of&nbsp;persecution of various religious groups recorded both before and after the 2020 post-election protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Chry\u015bcijanskaja Vizija, a group that monitors reprisals against Christians in Belarus, at least 60 priests, including 19 Orthodox, 22 Roman Catholic, and 14 Protestant, suffered from reprisals between 2020 and August 2023.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 28,&nbsp;BPN.&nbsp;&#8220;The authoritarian nature of the government in Belarus&#8221; is a threat to most human rights, including religious freedom,&nbsp;says&nbsp;a 2023 religious freedom report.
