February 26, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d has met with Volker T\u00fcrk, the UN human rights commissioner, in Geneva on February 26, said the Belarusian foreign office.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ry\u017eanko\u016d said that Minsk \u201cwill continue to resist the manipulation of human rights instruments, which leads to a sharp degradation of human rights in the so-called mature democracies, while the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), against this deplorable backdrop, focuses on countries detested by the West, including Belarus,\u201d the foreign ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian foreign minister invited T\u00fcrk to visit Belarus to familiarize himself with the human rights situation on the ground, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

T\u00fcrk has not yet commented on the meeting on X or the OHCHR website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a report released two years ago, he concluded<\/a> that \u201cthere are sufficient grounds to believe that systematic, widespread and gross human rights violations have been and are being committed in Belarus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSome of the violations may also amount to crimes against humanity, as defined in international customary law, when such acts are committed as part of a widespread or systematic attack directed against any civilian population, with knowledge of the attack.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UN human rights commissioner met with \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja on February 16 on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian opposition leader handed him documentary evidence of reprisals and the list of political prisoners in critical condition, as well as a document with proposals on steps to be taken to secure their release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, the Belarusian delegation headed by Ry\u017eanko\u016d concludes its three-day visit to Geneva. It attended high-level events of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) and the Conference on Disarmament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 19, the UN Human Rights Council will hold an interactive dialogue on human rights in Belarus, based on the first report<\/a> from the Group of Experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report says that some rights violations \u201camount to international crimes in that they were committed intentionally as part of a widespread and systematic attack against a segment of the civilian population of Belarus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
