March 5, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Warsaw has limited the issue of Polish humanitarian visas only for those Belarusians who are at real risk of loss of life and health or criminal responsibility over their political views, Rzeczpospolita <\/em>reports, citing the Polish foreign ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2020, Poland has issued more than 53,500 humanitarian visas to Belarusians who were fleeing politically-motivated persecution at home. Last year, 518 Belarusian nationals were granted this type of visa that allows one-time entry to Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warsaw linked the move to uncovered abuses of humanitarian visas which some people used for other purposes, such as travel in the Schengen countries and trips between Belarus and Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland, along with Lithuania, was the main destination country for Belarusians fleeing reprisals following the 2020 crackdown on opposition and civil society in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
