March 7, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Female unemployment in Belarus has decreased from 3.3 to 2.7 percent over the past five years, Natalla Pa\u016dlu\u010denka, in charge of the labor and social protection ministry, told journalists yesterday, noting higher female labor force participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The data is most likely from the National Statistical Committee’s (Bie\u0142stat) regular household sample survey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on official data from employment centers, the government usually reports unemployment rates of less than 0.1 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three years ago, the government cut in half the list of jobs prohibited for women, leaving 88 positions and may consider its further reduction, Pa\u016dlu\u010denka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The share of employed women under 49 raising children with the help of numerous benefits exceeds 60 percent, the minister said, citing Belarus’ good standing in the United Nations Gender Inequality Index, where it remains in the top 30 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 50 percent of Belarusian students are females and 40 percent of working women are university graduates, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 population shrank by more than 1 million during the 30-year rule of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, according to official statistics.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
