March 10, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A 21.3-percent plunge in supplies to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) caused Belarusian exports to drop by 11.5 percent in January year on year, the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) said in its recent weekly macroeconomic report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sales in the CIS countries, the major destination for Belarusian exports, fell by 6.2 percent amid increased competition, lower demand and high interest rates in Russia, the analysts noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian imports rose by 1 percent in January, driven by increased domestic demand, widening the deficit in foreign trade in goods to $500 million from $100 million recorded last year, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Belarusian diplomat Alaksandar Raho\u017enik warned that this year’s exports to Russia were expected to drop to a \u201ccritically low level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian exports may fall significantly in 2025, if this forecast is true and exports to non-CIS countries continue to decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
