March 11, Pozirk. <\/strong>The Mazyr-based border unit has opened the Naro\u016dla border patrol station, the State Border Committee reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony was attended by State Border Committee Chairman Kanstancin Mo\u0142asta\u016d and Homiel Regional Executive Committee Deputy Chairman Andrej Barano\u016dski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mazyr border unit commander, Siarhiej Sa\u016d\u010duk, said that the station would strengthen Belarus\u2019 southern border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unit has guarded the border with Ukraine since October 2018. Initially, the servicemen were stationed at an office building in Naro\u016dla. “In response to new risks from the neighboring state and the expansion of the protected sector,\u201d the Naro\u016dla border unit was reinforced on May 3, 2021, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The construction of the new border station started on February 20, 2023, funded under a state investment program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Naro\u016dla border patrol station monitors more than 60 kilometers of the 1,084.2-km long Belarusian-Ukrainian border, running through the Polesie State Radioecological Reserve. The sector is also important because of its strategic river Prypia\u0107 (Pripet) and wetlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2024, at the opening ceremony for the Baravoje border station in the Mazyr district, the regional chief announced that two new border stations would be commissioned and one upgraded in the Homiel region in 2024. Ivan Krupko did not specify their location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine, in which the Belarusian government sided with the Kremlin. Russian troops launched an offensive on Kyiv from Belarus. After liberating northern Ukraine, Kyiv’s troops have started mining areas by the Belarusian border and building defense facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
