March 12, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The health of retired Roman-Catholic Archbishop Tadevu\u0161 Kandrusievi\u010d, 79, diagnosed with skin cancer, significantly deteriorated two days ago, catholicminsk.by<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The archdiocese of Minsk and Mahilo\u016d urged believers to pray for his and Pope Francis’ health at today’s mass at the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Minsk to be held by the current Archbishop Iosif Stanie\u016dski. The mass is scheduled to start at 3 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kandrusievi\u010d headed the archdiocese since 2007 until his resignation in 2021 at the age of 75. His criticism of police violence during the 2020 political crisis irritated Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and his officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the 2020 presidential election, the relationship between the state and the Catholic Church deteriorated as many priests and faithful denounced police brutality and repression. Some clerics were arrested or forced to flee the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
