March 13, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The European Parliament (EP) has launched #EPStandsBYyou solidarity campaign to support Belarusians imprisoned in politically-motivated cases, the press office of Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja reported yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EP President Roberta Metsola and Cichano\u016dskaja lead the campaign involving some 500 MEPs of various political affiliations, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“From March 10 to March 13, MEPs will sign and send postcards to Belarusian political prisoners – people who are illegally held in prisons of [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime,” the message reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign aims to remind hundreds of jailed Belarusians that they are not alone and that their release remains a priority of the international community, it stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of March 13, human rights defenders identified at least 1,215 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
