March 17, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Belarusian executives promoted their country’s oil refining and geological exploration services during their visit to Libya last week, Illa Ikan, CEO at oil and petrochemical giant Bie\u0142naftachim, told the state-run Belarus 1<\/em> TV channel in an interview broadcast yesterday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ikan was a member of a large delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Viktar Karankievi\u010d that visited Benghazi on March 10 and 11. It included several ministers as well as the Committee for State Security (KGB) chief Ivan Tertel and Siarhiej \u0141uka\u0161evi\u010d of the foreign ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation reportedly signed a document outlining areas of cooperation between Belarus and eastern Libya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agriculture Minister Juryj Har\u0142o\u016d suggested sharing crop cultivation technologies and arranging deliveries of tractors and farm equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus could help Libya build flour mills and facilities for grain processing, sorting and fodder production as well as supply tires, according to Industry Minister Alaksandar Jafima\u016d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Libyan officials were reportedly also interested in firefighting and safety vehicles for airfields and oil fields as well as in Belarusian high-altitude and rescue equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last week\u2019s visit took place just a few weeks after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka expressed readiness to boost ties with Libya following a meeting with Khalifa Belqasim Omar Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Libya\u2019s political crisis has been ongoing since Muammar Gaddafi\u2019s fall in 2011. Since March 2022, two different governments control the country, the Tripoli-based and internationally recognized led by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh and Benghasi-based government led by Osama Hamada. The LNA, led by 81-year-old Haftar, is loyal to the Libyan House of Representatives in Tobruk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, Haftar launched a failed attack on Tripoli. Reports suggested that his troops were aided by Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
