March 19, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Norway and Ukraine joined the European Union’s 16th<\/sup> package of sanctions against Belarus, the Council of the EU reported yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adopted on the third anniversary of Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, new sanctions punish \u201cthe involvement of Belarus in the Russian aggression against Ukraine\u201d and mirror the trade-related restrictions against Russia, the EU said, welcoming the commitment of the eight countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sanctions target the Minsk-based Intehra\u0142 chip factory for reportedly supplying chips to Russian entities participating in the war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Intehra\u0142\u2019s products \u201chave been found in the battlefield,\u201d the Official Journal of the European Union reported. \u201cSuch purchase orders are large and account for the vast majority of the company\u2019s exports,\u201d it stressed, noting the vital importance of semiconductors to Russia’s war effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US Department of Treasury sanctioned Intehra\u0142 for backing the war in February 2022. Sanctions by Japan, Ukraine and the United Kingdom followed later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few weeks ago, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka emphasized the critical role of electronics for the future of Belarus and Russia during his visit to Intehra\u0142.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, the BelPol opposition group of former security officers published an investigation identifying Intehra\u0142 as one of the companies involved in the mass production of ammunition for the Russian army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian Investigative Center also reported that Intehra\u0142 is bypassing sanctions and assisting Russia\u2019s military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
