March 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The Group of Experts’ recent report on human rights in Belarus shows how biased country-oriented mechanisms turn the international human rights work into a farce, said \u0141arysa Bielskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus’ permanent representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva made the statement today at the UN Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her opinion, the HRC “does not have a mandate for so-called investigations and assessments of the political structure of sovereign states.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Establishing any country-based mechanisms without the affected country’s consent is counterproductive. The spread of country-based mechanisms has made it obvious that they serve the interests of their initiators rather than promoting cooperation. These mandates best serve the manipulative policies of the West. And the more mandates, the more odious their conclusions, the better!” Bielskaja exclaimed, according to her mission’s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The envoy said that based on such reports, the West introduces unilateral sanctions and justifies meddling in internal affairs. She claimed that there are no political reprisals in her country. At the same time, she called the pardoning by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka of 293 people “who repented of their crimes related to anti-state activities” proof that humanity is an integral part of Belarus’ policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
