March 20, Pozirk. <\/strong>The Belarusian rubel might strengthen if a Ukraine ceasefire deal is agreed, said Anatol Charyton\u010dyk, a senior researcher at the BEROC think tank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told reporters that a ceasefire is likely to lead to the easing of sanctions on Russia, including the financial ones. “This would lead to some strengthening of the Russian ruble against the dollar. Accordingly, the Belarusian rubel would also strengthen against the dollar,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, in this scenario, the Belarusian currency may “significantly weaken” against the Russian, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two currencies would not appreciate against the US dollar in a longer term, Charyton\u010dyk noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if the negotiations involving the United States, Russia and Ukraine do not lead to a ceasefire, the Russian ruble is likely to weaken to 90-100 per dollar, the analyst said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
