March 21, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Vadzim Kaban\u010duk, the Belarusian opposition’s security chief, has said that officials in Kyiv voice their support for a democratic Belarus in general, not only for Belarusians fighting on their side against Russia<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement follows today’s panel discussions in Kyiv on relations between the Belarusian pro-democracy forces and the Ukrainians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the United Transitional Cabinet, the discussions concerned strategies, problems of the Belarusian diaspora and volunteer fighters, and “the fate of inmates in \u0141uka\u0161enka’s prisons who were jailed for actions in support of Ukraine,” such as anti-war protests and sabotage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The events were attended by UTC chief of staff Valer Mackievi\u010d, Ukrainian Deputy Veterans Minister Ruslan Prykhodko and Ukrainian MP Bohdan Yaremenko, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, the Ukrainian Prism think tank and the European Dialogue center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja’s aide Anatol Labied\u017aka, who also participated in the debates, said the Ukrainian leadership “has made a political decision to significantly change the legal status of the volunteers who are fighting or have fought for Ukraine.” In particular, “the preparation of a bill that would apply not only to the volunteers but also to their family members has begun.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stated that “in practice, Ukraine is showing a visible turn toward the opponents of the Belarusian regime.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
