March 23, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Lithuanian interior ministry has expressed concerns over the right-wing MPs’ initiative to tighten restrictions on Belarusian and Russian nationals residing in Lithuania, Delfi <\/em>reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan was announced earlier this month by MP Laurynas Kas\u010di\u016bnas in charge of Lithuania\u2019s Homeland Union \u2013 Lithuanian Christian Democrats. The politician argued that Belarusian holders of Lithuanian residence permits who visit their home country at least once every three months without a serious reason should be deprived of the right to live in Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move would be difficult to implement and would significantly increase the workload for the State Border Guard Service and migration services, the interior ministry argued. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years ago, Vilnius halted applications for national and Schengen visas from Belarusians and Russians, subjecting those arriving from outside the European Union for additional checks for threats at the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
