March 24, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Minsk and Moscow have condemned the <\/em><\/strong>potential suspension of their membership in the board of trustees of the German Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ) Foundation that assists victims of Nazi crimes, the Belarusian foreign ministry’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EVZ Foundation was established “with the support of the Belarusian and Russian parties as a specialized structure for the benefit of victims of Nazism from the states of Central and Eastern Europe, primarily Belarus, Russia and Ukraine\u201d as most affected by the Nazis, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement described the potential exclusion of Belarus and Russia as a “German-inspired fuss” designed to demonstrate “disrespect for the countries and peoples affected by German fascism, the victims of Nazism and their descendants.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk and Moscow accuse the EVZ Foundation of transforming its activities that “acquired an explicit anti-Belarusian and anti-Russian character” and abandoning the original goals of promoting reconciliation and supporting surviving Nazi victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Foundation’s intentions\u00a0to suspend cooperation are cynical and shameful, the diplomats claimed, accusing the organization of instrumentalizing memory and distorting history. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
