March 25, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusians stand united as never before but today their survival and freedom are linked to the Euro-Atlantic alliance, Lithuanian MP \u017dygimantas Pavilionis has said as the white-red-white flag was raised near the Seimas on Belarusian Freedom Day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja, her associates, activists, Lithuanian MPs and foreign diplomats attended the event which is to be followed by a rally later today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You have your leader, you have faith in your freedom,” Pavilionis said. “I am also very proud that you made this geopolitical turn to the West. [This decision is] what was lacking in your fight [in 2020].\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician urged Belarusians to embrace their mother tongue instead of using Russian. “Just stop. This is the language of your occupant. . .\u00a0 You have to translate your freedom into all other European languages. This is the only way. But start with Belarusian language and forget Russian.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pavilionis also called on Belarusian political exiles to keep in mind their primary goal of changing the political regime inside Belarus. “This is the turning moment. Those weeks, months, years might decide decades of your future,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Those who start appeasement, those who start accommodating [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka regime today, those who try to trade your freedom for some prisoners, say no [to them],\u201d the politician noted, most likely implying the US President Donald Trump\u2019s administration. \u201c\u0141uka\u0161enka saw many American presidents and he might see still few. But if you will go that way, you will lose your freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Appeasing Moscow will lead to defeat, the politician said, citing Ronald Reagan. “Any American administration that starts with appeasement usually ends with applauding to Lithuanians, Poles and Ukrainians with our wisdom because we live here for a thousand years and we know how to deal with Russians,” he concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
