March 27, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>By establishing a diplomatic mission in the Vatican, Belarus hopes to strengthen its position in many countries, Jury Ambrazievi\u010d, appointed today as ambassador to the Holy See, has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They include countries in Latin America and Africa and “public and state elites” in parts of Europe and North America, state media quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Vatican and the Pope have enormous authority around the world and significant influence on society and the elites of many states where the Catholic religion has traditionally had a serious influence on mentality, worldview and human values,” the ambassador stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said his appointment will contribute to “making friends and, through their capacities, defending our national interests, including in foreign trade and attracting foreign investment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We proceed from the assumption that hundreds of millions of people in the world identify themselves as Catholics, and even more people listen to what is happening in the Vatican and what the Pope is saying. These people are guided by the values \u200b\u200bthat we traditionally understand, such as family and many other important things inherent in a broader Christian culture,” the ambassador noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 25, Pope Francis appointed Ignazio Ceffalia as apostolic nuncio to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 13, \u0141uka\u0161enka congratulated Francis on the 12th anniversary of his pontificate, expressing hope that opening the Belarusian embassy to the Holy See would bring relations to a new level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Council of Ministers directed in December 2024 to open the embassy before September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
