Then, the accused left the country, only to illegally return to Belarus after some time. Here he has been hiding from criminal prosecution until now,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ministry reported the hospitalization of the &#8220;injured policeman.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pravo Imeyut human rights project identified the detainee as former political prisoner Mikita Samaryn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In December 2020, he was sentenced to four years of restricted freedom and sent to an open-type corrective institution for alleged violence against a police officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Viasna Human Rights Center documented the brutal arrest of Samaryn on October 5, 2020. Police handcuffed him and threw him into a minivan, with the handcuffs leaving cuts on his wrists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;They cut off his long hair with a knife in the van,\u201d it said, noting that police threatened to take him to a forest and open a criminal case against a friend detained with him, if he refused to testify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March 2021, the Hrodna Regional Court changed his sentence for two years and six months in a penal colony, but the man did not show up at the trial.
