March 31, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/strong>. <\/em>Yerevan will not pay membership fees to the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Armenian foreign ministry has told the local branch of Russia’s Sputnik<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armenia officially notified the CSTO Secretariat of the decision, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move come after the suspension of Yerevan’s engagement with the CSTO over the alleged failure to address \u201cexternal aggression at the borders of sovereign Armenia in 2021 and 2022.\u201d\u00a0 Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared that the CSTO posed a threat to Armenia\u2019s existence, sovereignty and statehood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yerevan also has strained relations with Minsk. In June 2024, Pashinyan said that neither he nor any other Armenian official would travel to Belarus as long as Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka was in power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The head of the Armenian government said that in connection with \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s remarks supportive of Azerbaijan made earlier that year at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CSTO comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. Yerevan has been downgrading its participation since late 2022 and ignoring the bloc\u2019s high-level, accusing its individual members of \u201cplanning a war\u201d against Armenia together with Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
