April 1, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Rights defenders reported more than a dozen criminal charges and an upcoming trial of exiled Andrej Stry\u017eak, head of the BySol Solidarity Foundation. The Homiel Regional Court will open the proceedings on April 18 without the defendant being present, the local branch of the Viasna Human Rights Center said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of the year, the BySol network has helped 29 people leave Belarus and escape reprisals, according to the Obychnoye Utro<\/em> YouTube show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other cases of politically-motivated persecution documented in Belarus from March 29 to 31 included a seizure of the family home from exiled journalist and media manager Alaksiej Dzikavicki in Pinsk, Brest region, he said on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate development, two pro-Russian activists were given jail terms on charges of sharing banned content. Siarhiej \u0141a\u0161ko\u016d was jailed for 10 days over a “non-political” Facebook reaction five years ago, his associate Elvira Mirsalimava said on Telegram. Volha Bondarava, notorious for harassing regime critics, is serving a 13-day jail term, Belsat<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cell phone of Coordination Council Speaker An\u017ealika Mielnikava, who went missing in Poland, has been in Belarus since March 19, opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka said on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities released Arciom Antona\u016d after he had served 18 months in prison on charges of insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, MAYDAY.TEAM reported. Rights groups considered him a political prisoner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian Supreme Court portal has not updated its electronic sessions schedule for about a month, citing maintenance. The schedule has been the key official source of information on politically-motivated persecution, allowing human rights defenders and journalists to document reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rights groups added 11 people to their political prisoners list, taking the total to 1,202 as of April 1. The real number may be considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
