April 1, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Artillery guns placed at WW2 memorial sites in central Minsk and the Brest Fortress will fire one single idle shot tomorrow at noon to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory over the Nazi Germany, the defense ministry’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event that originated a few years ago in Russia and is known as the Shot of Memory will be dedicated to \u201cthe feat of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War and the fallen defenders of the Fatherland,\u201d it said, asking the civilians not to panic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials of the Armed Forces and government agencies, members of veteran and youth organizations and Russian diplomats are expected to attend. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plans are consistent with the Belarusian government\u2019s celebrations of Soviet legacies, including the commemoration of the Great Patriotic War outside the Second World War context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
