April 3,<\/strong> Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Poland thwarted more than 150 attempts by third-country foreigners to enter from Belarus irregularly yesterday, arresting 28 offenders as well as four persons on suspicion of facilitating illegal migration, the Polish Border Guard’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agency reported the arrests a week after Poland temporarily suspended the right of migrants arriving in Poland via its border with Belarus to apply for asylum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People who attempted to cross into Poland attacked Polish border guards with stones and tree branches, the Polish Border Guard noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, Poland has not allowed at least 3,900 people to cross irregularly via Belarus, while Latvia and Lithuania have foiled 360 and 220 attempts, respectively, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the European Union recorded at least 36,291 irregular border crossings at its shared border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to get to the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A recent report by the Oxfam and Egala rights groups cited evidence of pushbacks and violence on both sides of the Belarus-EU border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
