April 3, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The Lithuanian Seimas Committee on National Security and Defense has unanimously supported stricter sanctions targeting Belarusian and Russian nationals, LRT<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restrictions were announced last month by MP Laurynas Kas\u010di\u016bnas in charge of Lithuania\u2019s Homeland Union \u2013 Lithuanian Christian Democrats. The politician argued that Belarusian holders of Lithuanian residence permits who visit their home country at least once every three months without a serious reason should be deprived of the right to live in Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A vote by Lithuanian MPs will make the final decision on these proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lithuanian president’s administration and Lithuania’s State Security Department supported the move, while businesses were critical of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marius Cesnulevicius, an adviser to Gitanas Naus\u0117da, confirmed the Lithuanian president’s stance on identical restrictions against Belarusians and Russians, noting that Vilnius does not see any difference between the regimes in the Kremlin and Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move would be difficult to implement and would significantly increase the workload for the State Border Guard Service and migration services, the interior ministry warned earlier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years ago, Vilnius halted applications for national and Schengen visas from Belarusians and Russians, subjecting those arriving from outside the European Union to additional checks for threats at the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
