April 6, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Latvian MPs extended the ban on imports of agricultural products and animal feed from Belarus and Russia until July 1, 2026, Delfi<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaspars Bri\u0161kens, who heads the national economy, rural, environmental and regional policy parliamentary committee, described the move as part of Latvia’s economic security policy. The ban is an important additional element of the European Union\u2019s sanctions against aggressor countries, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Introduced last March, the ban also applies to the import of Belarus- and Russia-made agricultural products via third countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, reports said that Latvian conservatives from the National Alliance, holding 12 seats out of 100 at the Saeima, proposed to completely ban trade in goods of Belarusian and Russian origin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, democratic countries have imposed multiple restrictions on Belarus over human rights abuses, alleged vote rigging in the 2020 presidential election, a brutal crackdown on protesters, the forced landing of a Ryanair flight, a migration crisis at the European Union border, as well as support of Russia’s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
