April 7, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Members of the BelPol association of former Belarusian law enforcement officers informed German diplomats of unabated politically-motivated reprisals in Belarus at a briefing at the German foreign ministry, belpol.pro<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian activists talked about recent mass raids and arrests, ill-treatment of prisoners, suppressed freedoms and attacks on independent media outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group also noted the militarization of Belarus’ economy, including military spending, increased defense industries’ production capacities and the involvement of Russian and Chinese workers in the construction of military infrastructure facilities in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BelPol identified drills and the deployment of military equipment along the European Union\u2019s border, as well as officials’ hostile rhetoric toward NATO as a concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activists lobbied for tightening sanctions on Minsk and adjusting sanction compliance mechanisms amid systemic circumvention, calling for additional measures regarding supplies of parts for sanctioned Belarusian entities by foreign companies, including entities based in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Given the seriousness of the data presented and the strategic importance of Germany in the system of European foreign policy, we can state a high interest in further interaction between the BelPol and German government agencies,” the group said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
