April 8, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian writer Alhierd Bacharevi\u010d told a conference at the University of Warsaw yesterday that the main goal of Belarusian literature is to help readers overcome fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the 2020 protests, Bacharevi\u010d has lived in emigration. Minsk has declared his magnum opus “Dogs of Europe” to be extremist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bacharevi\u010d said it was more than a novel. “It’s a universe, a planet with people who read this book, who banned this book, journalists and critics who discussed it . . . and I’m not a god or creator there, I’m also part of that world.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This novel is about a national utopia, a European utopia, an imperial utopia, as well as a literary and linguistic utopia,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite writing many other books, he expressed hope for this one to be remembered as his key legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
