April 11, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Belarusian territorial troops have started a three-day drill in the Viciebsk region’s Pastavy district to train in defending fortified areas, the defense ministry’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exercise, which is part of the district\u2019s territorial troops training from March 11 to April 15, focuses on boosting defense capabilities and training reservists in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, General Staff Chief Pavie\u0142 Muraviejka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defensive field works demonstrate Belarus’ readiness for defense, rather than attack, the general noted, dismissing concerns of Belarus’ western neighbors. Fortified positions have been prepared in almost all regions, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Territorial troops, an auxiliary part of the Armed Forces, are formed in times of war or military-political tension of reservists with military training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two years ago, Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin announced that territorial defense \u201cis being transformed from a support system into a full-fledged combat one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian army has been holding maneuvers in various parts of the country for over two months. It announced the beginning of a large-scale exercise on February 3, followed by another one on March 24. It has not reported whether those maneuvers have drawn to a close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, the defense ministry reported that the 115th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment conducted a tactical drill at the Ru\u017eany bombing range in the Brest region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
