April 12, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Germany’s future government supports the European Union’s plans to impose tariffs on fertilizer imports from Russia and Belarus.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pozirk <\/em>has studied the coalition deal signed between the conservative CDU\/CSU bloc and the center-left SPD. The coalition says it will “continue to ensure the effective national implementation of the sanctions resulting from the Russian war of aggression.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signees should complete intra-party discussion of the document by the end of April. The new government is expected to begin work in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Commission suggested imposing tariffs on Belarusian and Russian potash on January 28. Such imports make the EU vulnerable to potential coercive action by Russia and threaten its food security, the Commission said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tariffs would support growth in domestic production and allow for the diversification of supplies from third countries. This would ensure that fertilizers remain available to EU farmers at an affordable cost. The proposal includes easing measures in case farmers face a significant rise in prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, the paper emphasizes that the transit of all agricultural products and fertilizers from Russia and Belarus to third countries should remain unchanged in line with the EU’s commitment to promote food security worldwide, in particular in developing countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
