April 14, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Tens of thousands of Belarusians could join European armed forces if countries enlisted foreigners, the opposition defense chief, Vadzim Kaban\u010duk, suggested at a security conference in Prague on April 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion revolved around militarization and escalation in the region, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s impact on the general destabilization, as well as Russian deployments to Belarus, the United Transitional Cabinet reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, participants discussed the Zapad-2025 Belarusian-Russian large-scale exercise scheduled for September. “Everyone understands that the situation is serious and doesn’t rule out a future escalation,” Kaban\u010duk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that Ukraine peace may take long to achieve, while the opposition should prepare for the worst-case scenario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is advocating for changes in European legislation to offer exiled Belarusians the opportunity to join armed forces in the countries of their stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There is demand across the Belarusian diaspora in Europe. Its members are ready to join and defend the countries in which they live, primarily Eastern European countries.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, Kaban\u010duk emphasized the importance of giving Belarusians a military alternative, in addition to civic and political initiatives, so that Belarusian security officers will be aware that they have an option if they do not want to serve the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants also discussed ways to uncover the regime’s agents in the EU. The opposition’s Czech partners are aware of the problem and consider it a real threat, Kaban\u010duk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian Democratic Forces Office and the Prague Center for Transatlantic Relations organized the event, with support from the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants included Senator Pavel Fischer, the Czech envoy for the reconstruction of Ukraine, Tom\u00e1\u0161 Kope\u010dn\u00fd and other politicians and experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
