April 14, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Over the past three days, 179 asylum seekers attempted to cross the Belarusian-Latvian border illegally, LETA<\/em> reported, citing Latvia’s State Border Guard (SBG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Border officials said that it was predictable that the flow of illegal migration would resume with the onset of warm weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the SBG, 877 attempts have been prevented since the beginning of 2025, while 7 asylum seekers have been allowed to enter on humanitarian grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, 5,388 people were prevented from crossing the Latvian-Belarusian border illegally and 26 people were allowed to enter on humanitarian grounds. In 2023, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s calculations, Latvian border guards foiled 13,863 attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data from border guards show that irregular migration from Belarus intensified in April. Some 130 illegal crossings were thwarted in January, 75 in February, 150 in March and over 520 since the beginning of April, which is almost 50 percent more than the total for the first quarter (355).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 11\u201313, when Latvia reported 179 attempts, Poland reported 115 and Lithuania 72.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

European officials consider the migration crisis at the Belarus-EU border, which has been ongoing since the spring of 2021, a “hybrid attack” orchestrated by the Minsk and Moscow regimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
