April 14, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Denmark on Thursday joined six countries implementing additional measures to reduce the risk of circumventing sanctions against Belarus and Russia, said the Latvian State Revenue Service, whose functions include carrying out customs policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, six EU members \u2013 Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland and Croatia \u2013 approved an agreement drafted at the initiative of the Baltic states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of 2023, the prime ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania declared a common regional stance on implementing EU sanctions to step up the fight against circumventing the restrictions. In January 2024, the customs services heads from the Baltic countries signed a trilateral document establishing a unified approach to customs control over exports and to information sharing on EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The customs administrations of Finland and Poland joined the initiative last May and Croatia in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deal on including Denmark was signed in Krak\u00f3w, Poland, with the participation of customs officials from the six countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the framework of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union, a security seminar for senior officers was held in Krak\u00f3w on April 9\u201310. It brought together heads and leading specialists of customs services of the EU member states, as well as Ukraine and Moldova. Representatives of the European Commission and Frontex also took part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement that Denmark has joined provides for increased control over goods subject to sanctions when exported to Belarus and Russia or imported from there. Following a risk-based approach, customs officers request additional documents to verify compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
