April 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Siarhiej Dubinin, a 50-year-old Belarusian activist from the Homiel region’s Re\u010dyca, died under unclear circumstances in Poland, exiled human defender Leanid Sudalenka has said on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dubinin’s body with signs of violent death was found two days ago at his Krak\u00f3w home. The room was reportedly stained with blood and there was a knife on the floor. Roommate Alaksandar A\u0142maje\u016d who discovered the body said he found Dubinin \u201cwithout signs of life\u201d in a shared bathroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ER doctors pronounced Dubinin dead and the police launched an investigation, Sudalenka said, noting that it remains unclear where it was a murder or a suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSiarhiej was an active and caring person, an activist and an independent election observer in Re\u010dyca,” Sudalenka said. He collected signatures for an opposition candidate during the 2020 presidential campaign and was forced to leave Belarus fearing politically-motivated persecution. The man relocated to Poland where he worked at a construction site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sudalenka, who met Dubinin earlier this year in Lithuania’s Vilnius, said that he appeared fine, was joking and nothing indicated suicidal thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
