April 18, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Alaksiej Bahdana\u016d presented his credentials to Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev yesterday, three months after his appointment as Belarusian Ambassador to Kazakhstan, the Kazakh leader’s press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bahdana\u016d, former Belarusian antimonopoly minister, had pledged to increase Belarus\u2019 exports to Kazakhstan to more than $1 billion. \u201cOur trade in 2021 exceeded $1 billion as is at about $1.2 billion today, yet exports stood at $800-900 million. We need to improve it,\u201d he said after his appointment, proposing an increase in supplies of Belarusian food products to Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bahdana\u016d\u2019s data on trade may not reflect the reality as earlier this year, Timur Zhaksylykov, the Kazakh ambassador in Belarus, estimated it at about $1 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kazakhstan is implementing about 14 important investment and cooperation projects, mainly in mechanical engineering, he told Natalla Ka\u010danava, chairwoman of the Belarusian Council of Republic, the National Assembly’s upper chamber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus and Kazakhstan established diplomatic ties in 1992. Both are members of the Russia-led Commonwealth of Independent States and the Eurasian Economic Union as well as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
