April 21, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> According to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of data from the National Statistical Committee (Bie\u0142stat), the number of newspaper titles in Belarus decreased by 23.1 percent in the past five years, from 471 in 2019 to 362 in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of magazines and other periodicals declined by 31.8 percent in this period, from 806 to 550.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The overall annual print-run of magazines and other periodicals decreased almost by half, from 33.157 million to 15.755 million, and the annual print-run of newspapers by 32.9 percent, from 263.674 million to 177.024 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one-off newspaper print-run fell by 38.4 percent, from 3.877 million copies to 2.390 million copies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the print-run of scientific and popular science publications fell from 1,467 to 672.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are no privately-owned periodicals critical of the government in the country. Minsk has banned many media outlets as extremist and persecutes those who follow them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
