April 23, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Russian and Belarusian intelligence services are planning violent attacks on exiled Belarusian activists in Lithuania, Lithuania’s State Security Department (VSD) has warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, agents posing as residents of another European Union country launched a recruitment campaign on social media, it noted. The ads reportedly offered Belarusians studying in Vilnius to star in a music video for a fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYoung Belarusians, interested in the job offer, agreed to arrive at a specified place, where, according to the plans of the organizers of the attack, they were to be beaten,\u201d the report noted. \u201cPotential perpetrators were also incited to independently find and attack any person of Belarusian nationality of their choice and record this criminal act on video.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The VSD did not cite any specific incidents, but warned that potential attackers could be recruited among Lithuania\u2019s Russian-speaking population or extreme right-wing movements via Telegram and other social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian and Russian secret services have been conducting \u201cinformation and psychological operations in Lithuania\u201d since 2023 aiming to sow discord between Lithuanians and exiled Belarusians as well as to intimidate the latter, instilling a sense of insecurity, the agency noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The VSD urged Lithuanians not to give in to provocation by hostile intelligence services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, media reported several vandal attacks on Belarusian organizations in Vilnius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
