April 29, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister U\u0142adzimir Karanik, in China, has criticized the \u201cillegal imposition of sanctions and tariffs\u201d at his meeting with Shen Yueyue, vice chairwoman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus and China have worked out a new model of strategic cooperation in the current geopolitical realities, based on the integration of development strategies of the two countries, the Belarusian government\u2019s press office reports, citing him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The officials also discussed ties in the economic and humanitarian sectors as well as prospects for regional cooperation, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue of tariffs is sensitive for China after US President Donald Trump launched a global trade war with new tariffs on all goods entering the US earlier this month. China in particular and nearly all former Soviet countries were affected, except for Belarus and Russia. Overall, Trump has imposed 145 percent tariffs on Chinese goods since taking office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia was left out of the list because US sanctions already \u201cpreclude any meaningful trade,\u201d while Cuba, Belarus and North Korea were not included because existing tariffs and sanctions on them are already high, according to Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
