April 29, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>The European Union’s countries have not allowed at least 8,020 third-country foreigners to enter from Belarus irregularly since the start of 2025, according to Pozirk<\/em>\u2018s analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland was the major target with 5,695 irregular crossings and 2,155 attempts reported this month alone. Latvia thwarted 1,809 attempts and Lithuania, 516, with April accounting for more than half of irregular crossings since January. However, the total number of attempts fell by about 24 percent year on year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the EU foiled at least 36,291 irregular border crossings at its shared border with Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to get to the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
