May 7, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>The Belarusian foreign ministry has called on India and Pakistan to negotiate a ceasefire as soon as possible and resolve the conflict peacefully, says a statement on its website concerning the escalation of tensions between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus maintains friendly relations with India and Pakistan, advocating for \u201csustainable peace in South Asia and the settlement of disputes between states through consultations, negotiations and other peaceful means,\u201d it reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk welcomes steps towards the early de-escalation of the conflict situation and its political settlement which would strengthen security in the region, the statement noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conflict between India and Pakistan escalated after 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed on April 22 in an attack by a militant group in Indian-administered Kashmir. India accused Islamabad of involvement in the incident, yet Pakistan denied the allegations and called for an independent investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last night, India launched a series of missiles into Pakistan-controlled territory which targeted nine sites and reportedly resulted in casualties and destruction. Pakistan closed its airspace for at least 48 hours. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who recently visited Minsk, described the attack as \u201can act of war\u201d and vowed retaliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
