May 10, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Irregular border crossings from Belarus into the European Union by third-country foreigners have climbed to 10,210 since the start of 2025, according to Pozirk<\/em>\u2018s analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland remained the major target, with at least 6,741 clandestine entry attempts this year and 852 irregular crossings recorded in May alone. Latvia foiled 2,768 attempts, including 777 this month, and Lithuania, 701.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irregular crossings at the border between Belarus and the EU fell by 23.6 percent year on year with a 41.3-percent decrease at the Belarusian-Polish border. The number of attempts rose almost 64 percent at the border with Latvia and quadrupled in the Lithuanian direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the EU thwarted at least 36,291 irregular border crossings at its shared border with Belarus after foiling 42,078 attempts in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to get to the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
