May 11, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Totalitarianism in the modern world must be doomed to defeat, opposition politician Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka has said at an event marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remembering the past means eliminating violence and reprisals \u201cto protect those who are fighting for their freedom today, including in my country, Belarus, and to ensure that tyranny and injustice never return to our world,\u201d the transition cabinet\u2019s press office quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politician held talks with Austrian Economy Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer and discussed setting up a parliamentary group in support of a democratic Belarus with Austrian MP Petra Bayr, who chairs the foreign affairs committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka also had short conversations with Maciej \u017bywno, Poland’s Senate deputy marshal and W\u0142adys\u0142aw Bartoszewski of the Polish foreign ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Official delegations of Belarus and Russia have not been invited to commemorative events in Mauthausen since 2022, after Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine, in which official Minsk supports the Kremlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
