May 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, an EU-based Belarusian opposition figure, has addressed the European Commission and some member states with a proposal to introduce the same trade barriers against the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime as against Russia, the United Transitional Cabinet reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday in Warsaw, \u0141atu\u0161ka had meetings with the Lithuanian ambassador to Poland, Valdemaras Sarapinas, and his Latvian counterpart, Juris Poik\u0101ns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At these meetings, the politician stated the importance of a “synchronized approach to the introduction of a possible trade embargo on the supply of goods from Russia, extending the potential restrictions to the \u0141uka\u0161enka regime as well.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his opinion, this approach is vital to stop the complicity of Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s government in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and end internal repression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka said a different approach would create broad opportunities for the regime to make money by circumventing sanctions and trade restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka and the Lithuanian diplomat also discussed accountability for Belarusian officials within the framework of international institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
