May 19, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Polish customs officers at the Polish-Belarusian border have seized a five-ton load of tires for the Boeing civilian aircraft during an inspection of an Azerbaijan-bound truck that intended to transit via Belarus and Russia, Reuters <\/em>reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shipment, originating from Spain, was disguised as tires for cars and buses to evade the European Union’s sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish authorities have filed criminal charges over customs fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2022, shortly after Russia launched a full-scale war on Ukraine, the United States sanctioned exports of aviation products and the licensing of certain aircraft and spare parts. In August 2023, the United States added the Belarusian flagship carrier Bie\u0142avija to its sanctions lists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bie\u0142avija CEO Ihar \u010carhiniec later said that sanctions had thwarted a plan to replace the company\u2019s fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the European General Court upheld the EU sanctions against Bie\u0142avija that include a ban on exports and licensing of certain aircraft and spare parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
