May 19, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarusian human rights defenders have labeled seven people as political prisoners, bringing the total to 1,177, the Viasna center reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of them is A\u0142a Pu\u010dynskaja, accused of involvement in a foreign military conflict. In March 2024, Minsk added her to its extremist list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The others are Mikita \u0141osik, Alaksiej Kajda\u0161, Aleh \u0141ojka, Alaksandar Hardziejenka, Hanna Bahinskaja and Volha Alaksiejeva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrest of Mikita \u0141osik, the younger brother of imprisoned blogger Ihar \u0141osik, was reported on May 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Radyjo Svaboda<\/em>, Mikita was placed in a detention center in Viciebsk and charged with sharing information with the Bie\u0142aruski Hajun defense monitoring project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ihar was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment in December 2021 on charges of incitement to hatred and mass riots. Wardens are holding him incommunicado at a penal colony in Navapo\u0142ack, Viciebsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The human rights defenders demand freedom for all political prisoners and an end to reprisals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement has been signed by Viasna, Pravavaja Inicyjatyva, the Belarusian Association of Journalists, Respect-Protect-Fulfill, Lawtrend, Belarusian PEN and Human Constanta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
