May 20, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Eastern European countries may join Lithuania’s lawsuit at the UN International Court of Justice (ICJ) to hold Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime responsible for the migration crisis he provoked, said the president of the Baltic state, Gitanas Naus\u0117da.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LRT <\/em>quoted him as saying that illegal migration is not a phenomenon of the past; it is recurring, escalating and creating tension at the Lithuanian border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only a naive person would not understand that this is done deliberately to destabilize the European Union (EU), Naus\u0117da stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, media reported that Lithuania filed a statement of claim with the ICJ, accusing Minsk of breaking its commitments under a 2000 protocol against smuggling migrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania considers this as a deliberate attempt of the Belarusian regime to use migration as a tool of political pressure on Lithuania and the EU in response to their support for Belarusian democracy and human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vilnius demands “full compensation for the damage caused, including the costs of building the wall and guarantees that the violations of international law will not be repeated.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The migration crisis at the Belarus-EU border has been ongoing since the spring of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
