May 21, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Tbilisi banned Belarusian and Russian nationals from re-exporting cars and special equipment via Georgia starting from May 15, bm.ge <\/em>reported, citing the interior ministry’s service agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ban covers passenger vehicles, bulldozers, excavators, road graders and tractors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While re-exporting vehicles from the United States and the European Union to Belarus and Russia via Georgia had been prohibited since August 2023, Belarusian and Russian nationals could still export cars from Georgia to third countries before the ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia reportedly blamed the new ban on investigative journalists, who described Georgia as a transit country to evade sanctions. Tbilisi kept denying these accusations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few years, democratic countries have imposed multiple restrictions on Belarus over human rights abuses, alleged vote rigging in the 2020 presidential election, a brutal crackdown on protesters, the forced landing of a Ryanair flight, a migration crisis at the European Union border, as well as support of Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
