May 21, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Poland thwarted almost 300 irregular border crossings by third-country foreigners who arrived via Belarus yesterday, a record high since the start of 2025 after stopping 223 migrants four days ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, clandestine entry attempts into Poland fell 41.2 percent year on year from January 1 to May 20, to 8,376, according to Pozirk<\/em>\u2019s analysis of border guards\u2019 data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The European Union has not allowed at least 12,581 foreigners to enter irregularly from Belarus since January, 23 percent fewer than in the same period last year. Latvia reported 3,493 attempts and Lithuania, 712.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this week, Vilnius filed a lawsuit against Minsk with the UN International Court of Justice to hold the Belarusian regime responsible for allegedly orchestrating a massive influx of migrants to Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to get to the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the EU thwarted at least 36,291 irregular border crossings at its shared border with Belarus after foiling 42,078 attempts in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
