May 21, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has signed an edict introducing additional obligations for employers wishing to hire foreign workers from countries outside of the Eurasian Economic Union, his press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Employers must test migrants’ command of Russian or Belarusian and visit their homes to obtain information on their living conditions, it noted. They have 30 days to sign an employment contract with foreigners, from the date of their entry into Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The text of the edict has not been published yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, \u0141uka\u0161enka and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed a mechanism to bring Pakistani migrant workers to Belarus. The Belarusian ruler mentioned plans to invite up to 150,000 Pakistani workers amid labor shortages exacerbated by emigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 200,000 workers left Belarus from 2018-2023, according to the Cyberpartisans hacktivist group, amid a crackdown on dissent that continues since the disputed 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
