May 22, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d and his Venezuelan counterpart Yv\u00e1n Gil agreed to make more active use of the joint commission for trade and economic cooperation and the mechanism of political consultations during a telephone conversation yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian foreign ministry says that the conversation was held at Venezuela’s initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomats lauded cooperation between Minsk and Caracas in international organizations, particularly in the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter. They have concluded that the grouping must be expanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last summer, then-Prime Minister Raman Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka, who now heads the Belarusian central bank, discussed closer trade, economic and political ties with his Venezuelan government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka also met with President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and Planning Minister Ricardo Men\u00e9ndez on July 15 to discuss ways to restart projects “that are crucial for the Venezuelan economy.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
