May 25, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktar Karankievi\u010d has participated\u00a0 in the unveiling ceremony for a House of Belarus in eastern Libya’s Benghazi, where a delegation of Belarusian officials is currently on a working visit, the government’s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The facility was designed as a meeting place for businesses to discuss cooperation in industry, agriculture and healthcare, the official said, noting the particular interest of the Libyan side in boosting ties in healthcare, including staff training and supplies of medicines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk also sent a batch of MAZ buses to eastern Libya. The vehicles have already arrived at the destination and are ready for use, Karankievi\u010d said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media have frequently reported MAZ bus fires in Russia and Belarus after the company was targeted by western sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karankievi\u010d visited eastern Libya some two months ago. His current mission is the expansion of bilateral cooperation as agreed by Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Omar Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), earlier his year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Libyan warlord came to Minsk in February, praising Belarusian technological development and manufacturing industries. Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka pledged to \u201cdo anything\u201d for Libya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141uka\u0161enka visited Libya in 2000 where he met Muammar Gaddafi ousted and assassinated in 2011. Gaddafi visited Minsk in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Libya\u2019s political crisis has been ongoing since Gaddafi\u2019s fall. Since March 2022, two different governments control the country, the Tripoli-based and internationally recognized led by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh and Benghazi-based government led by Osama Hamada. The LNA, led by 81-year-old Haftar, is loyal to the Libyan House of Representatives in Tobruk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, Haftar launched a failed attack on Tripoli. Reports suggested that his troops were aided by Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite lacking international recognition, eastern Libya\u2019s government has more influence domestically, including control of resources and the army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
