May 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The District Court of Lublin in Poland has sentenced a Belarusian man, Mika\u0142aj M., to two years and two months in prison, Gazeta Wyborcza<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newspaper cited the ruling the court shared with the PAP <\/em>news agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland tried Mika\u0142aj M. behind closed doors, citing “important state interest.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court found him guilty of spying for Belarus in 2018\u20132023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man, born in Ukraine and fluent in Polish, has lived in Poland for more than 10 years and was engaged in trade in Belarusian goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The man was recruited by Belarusian secret services, probably because of his education. He was a specialist in rail transport and logistics,” the article reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish officers arrested him in February 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The November 2024 indictment accused Mika\u0142aj M. of surveilling a military airfield in Bia\u0142a Podlaska and engaging in other clandestine activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering his pre-trial detention, he could be released after May 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second defendant, a Pole, was fined 7,000 zlotys (about $1,900) for failing to report the crime. Both men reportedly confessed to the charges during the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
